Hammer Handoff: Atlanta Habitat is Official Carter Work Project 2026 Host

November 18, 2025

On Wednesday, November 13, 2025, Atlanta Habitat hosted a press conference where a ceremonial ‘golden hammer’ was passed from Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) to our affiliate. This act officially kicks off the annual Carter Work Project, a global initiative that honors the Carters by building homes in a different city around the world each year.

As outlined in a national press release from HFHI, Austin Habitat for Humanity hosted the 2025 Carter Work Project last month, wrapping up its weeklong blitz build with the construction of 25 homes in Whisper Valley, the country’s first geothermal neighborhood.

Hammer Handoff Highlights

At the press conference, Atlanta Habitat President and CEO Rosalyn Merrick reiterated that, from May 3-8, 2026, Atlanta Habitat will bring volunteers and partners together to blitz build 24 new homes in just five days at Langston Park, the organization’s newest planned community located in the historic Sylvan Hills neighborhood of southwest Atlanta.

During the press conference:

  • Rosalyn acknowledged that our CWP26 experience is the second time the Carters will not be on the build site, and Atlanta Habitat is honored to carry their affordable homeownership legacy forth.
  • Natosha Reid Rice, HFHI's VP of Global Housing Opportunities + Mission Alignment, read a ‘hammer handoff’ proclamation and passed a literal golden hammer to Rosalyn.
  • As part of a ‘mission moment,’ Rosalyn announced that the nonprofit has confirmed three of the 24 Langston Park homeowners in the pipeline, and she introduced two of them.
  • Future homeowners, Daniel and Lauren, were interviewed by the press and described their enthusiasm for the program.
  • Brian Findley, VP of Housing and Land for Atlanta Habitat, offered a walking tour of Langston Park for interested media and attendees to see our development in progress.
