Tax-Advantaged Giving
At Atlanta Habitat, we believe in the power of homeownership to transform lives. With smart, tax-advantaged giving options like those below, you can support Atlanta Habitat’s mission while potentially reducing your personal tax burden. Your gifts will help empower families and strengthen neighborhoods in Atlanta and South Fulton, while providing you with valuable tax benefits and maximizing the impact of your charitable giving.
Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)
A Donor-Advised Fund is a simple, tax-efficient way to support Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. When you contribute to a DAF, you receive an immediate tax deduction, even if you recommend a gift to Atlanta Habitat at a later time.
Assets in your DAF can grow tax-free, giving you the flexibility to choose the best time to make your gift to Atlanta Habitat. Many DAF sponsors also offer the option to set up recurring gifts, allowing you to provide long-term support for Atlanta Habitat’s mission. Most DAF providers offer easy-to-use online portals, making it simple to manage your giving.
To get started, contact your financial advisor or banking institution to set up a Donor-Advised Fund, or reach out to your DAF sponsor to recommend a grant from an existing fund.

IRA Charitable Gifts
If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift directly from your IRA to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD can satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and provides significant tax advantages.
Unlike taking a personal distribution, a QCD does not increase your adjusted gross income. Your gift can also be excluded from your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions.
Giving through your IRA is as simple as contacting your IRA administrator to request a direct distribution to Atlanta Habitat.
Other Smart Ways to Give
In addition to DAF and IRA charitable gifts, there are other tax-advantaged ways to support Atlanta Habitat:
- Gifts of Stock: By donating stock directly, you can leverage the growth of your investments, avoid capital gains taxes, and make a meaningful gift to Atlanta Habitat, all without impacting your monthly cash flow.
- Planned Giving: You can include Atlanta Habitat in your will, establish a charitable trust that provides income for you or your loved ones, or name Atlanta Habitat as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, life insurance policy, or investment accounts. These thoughtful gifts ensure your impact continues for generations.
There are so many ways to support Atlanta Habitat for Humanity that reflect your commitment to building stronger communities, while also offering meaningful financial benefits to you. However you choose to give, you’re helping more families find stability and opportunity through affordable homeownership and leaving a legacy of hope in Atlanta and South Fulton.
