We Did It, Atlanta!

May 18, 2026

What a week!

Together, we kicked off the Carter Work Project with joy, purpose, and the kind of energy only Atlanta can bring. By the end of the week, that same spirit was visible across every corner of Langston Park.

We heard inspiring words each day from homebuyers whose stories reminded us exactly why this work matters. We welcomed supporters from across the city and beyond, including Mayor Andre Dickens, Chip Carter, Congresswoman Nikema Williams, Atlanta City Council Member Eshe Collins, and many others who came to stand with Atlanta Habitat and the families at the heart of this build.

And on the site, the work was remarkable.

By the final push of build week, volunteers were painting, landscaping, and completing the punch-list details that helped turn construction into community. Across all one-story homes, teams brought warmth, color, and curb appeal through exterior paint and landscaping. In all 14 of the townhomes, volunteers worked through final details that helped each home feel closer and closer to move-in. By the end of the day, Langston Park looked less like a work site and more like home.

Just as important, this week was a celebration of the 24 homebuyers who worked so hard to get here. Long before volunteers arrived, they had already put in the work — applying, waiting, learning, volunteering, preparing, and believing. This week honored that commitment and gave all of us the chance to stand beside them as they moved one step closer to realizing the homes they have dreamt of building and worked hard to own.

Every volunteer, sponsor, partner, and supporter who showed up played an active part in something bigger than a build. You helped move forward a real solution to Atlanta's affordable housing needs. You helped create opportunities for families to stay rooted, build equity, and remain connected to the communities they know and love. In doing so, you also helped protect the culture, history, and spirit of Atlanta that we celebrated all week long.

And as we worked, we hope we made President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter proud. Their legacy was felt throughout the site in the spirit of service, in the care people showed one another, and in the shared belief that everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. We worked hard together to carry that legacy forward, and we hope the love, humility, and purpose they brought to this mission could be felt in every wall raised, every brushstroke, and every act of generosity throughout the week.

We hope you leave this experience knowing a little more about this city, its history, its heart, and the people who make it what it is. And we hope you leave feeling proud of the role you played in continuing an important legacy.

And while we accomplished something extraordinary this week, there is still more to do.

Langston Park is still growing, and we would love for you to continue following the journey and finding ways to stay involved as we push forward in finishing the community. The work does not end here, and neither does the impact.

But for now, we can say with full hearts, we did it, Atlanta! And on behalf of all of Atlanta Habitat, thank you.
