Technology Partners
Objective:
Technology Partners help to deliver competent computer instruction and/or provide efficient technical support to Atlanta Habitat homeowners with the goal of ‘bridging the digital divide”.
Background:
In 2008, Atlanta Habitat launched a technology program intended to ensure that each Atlanta Habitat homeowner owns a home computer. Each distributed computer is outfitted with Windows XP or VISTA and Microsoft Office Suite software. A crucial component of the program is teaching the homeowners how to use and maintain their computers.
Instruction Committee
-
The instruction committee is responsible for delivering the classroom instruction to the homeowners using the Habitat curriculum and class materials.
-
Classes are held at the Atlanta Habitat office unless otherwise arranged and are offered once a month.
-
Committee members are expected to participate in at least two classes every quarter.
-
Meetings are held twice a year for training, planning and evaluation purposes at the Atlanta Habitat office.
Technical Support Committee
-
The technical support committee is responsible for evaluating and preparing computers before they are delivered to homeowners.
-
The evaluation and preparation of computers will occur once a month at the Atlanta Habitat office.
-
A “clinic” will be held at least twice a year, but no more than quarterly, to evaluate homeowners’ computers if they are having issues with computer performance. Committee members are asked to have the skills, expertise and equipment to provide basic assistance with these issues.
-
Committee members are expected to attend one “clinic” and participate in two evaluation sessions.
-
Meetings are held once a year for training, planning and evaluation purposes at the Atlanta Habitat office.
