Habitat for Humanity International to open hundreds of new ReStores

On Dec. 8, Central Fulton Master Gardeners (CFMG) will celebrate its 100th Atlanta Habitat for Humanity home. By the end of this year, CFMG master gardeners will have contributed more than 1,700 volunteer hours and directed and educated over 3,500 Atlanta Habitat volunteers in landscaping and plant care.

The Atlanta Habitat for Humanity ReStore is teaming with up popular blogger “Pretty Handy Girl” to present a dynamic workshop on Saturday, June 23, at 2:00 p.m. Brittany, aka Pretty Handy Girl, has outfitted her own home with unique items she found at the ReStore and tells how you can take diamonds in the rough and make true gems for your home. Her workshop will give people ideas on ways they can create custom items for their homes and offices.

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps National and VISTA members will travel to Dallas, Texas, May 20–26 to participate in Habitat for Humanity International’s annual AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon. This year’s build will engage more than 400 AmeriCorps members from 36 states and will highlight local community needs for affordable housing and the members’ service with Habitat.

Atlanta Habitat is pleased to announce that Dan Maddox is joining the organization as vice president of operations. Maddox comes from a 27-year career at Georgia-Pacific Corporation (GP), where he most recently has been vice president GP Harmon International, Rolls Division, India Business. Prior to his years at GP, he was senior manager at Arthur Andersen and Company (Accenture). His will begin his new position on Feb. 27.

Volunteers from 11 congregations and three universities will come together in Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s first-annual Young Adult Faith Build for people in their 20s and 30s. The Warrick Dunn Family Foundation (WD-FF), a public charity serving single-parent families in Atlanta, Ga., Baton Rouge, La., Tallahassee and Tampa, Fl., rewarded a single mother for achieving financial independence by becoming a first-time homebuyer through its Homes for the Holidays (HFTH) program on Thursday morning.
