Fractions, decimals and houses equal hands on math lessons and some special homes for future Atlanta Habitat for Humanity homebuyers. Nearly 160 sixth-grade math students at The Lovett School will help Atlanta Habitat build two home storage units and birdhouses that will be distributed to new Atlanta Habitat homebuyers next year. The construction projects are part of math lessons for students who are investigating fractions and decimals this semester. This partnership is one of Atlanta Habitat’s new youth initiatives aimed at engaging students’ knowledge and volunteerism. The Lovett School has built 24 Atlanta Habitat homes to date, making the organization one of the school’s largest fundraising beneficiaries.

Nearly three dozen Atlanta women executives will spend a day working outside the office in order to help build two Atlanta Habitat homes. Former State Senator and Carter Center Board of Trustees Chair Jason Carter joined the salute and acknowledged the connections between volunteers and homeowners during an Atlanta Habitat house build. “One of the most incredible things about Atlanta Habitat is that it builds human connections. Our world cries out for a sense of connection. If you could walk back into a community and know that’s a house you built, the connection becomes so real,” Carter said during his keynote address.

June 13, 2014 (Atlanta, GA) - TechBridge, a nonprofit providing affordable business and technology expertise to other nonprofits, is pleased to announce the completion of its tenth Technology Community Habitat house, in partnership with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. 280 volunteers from the technology community put down their laptops and tablets and picked up hammers and paint rollers to build a new home for a deserving family. Keys were turned over to the new homebuyer at the June 12, 2014, dedication ceremony for the home.

The grant will support Atlanta Habitat’s $12 million “It Starts at Home” capital campaign to fund the purchase and renovation of a new, environmentally sustainable headquarters building.
