Novelis and Atlanta Falcons

Novelis and has helped Atlanta Habitat return to Atlanta’s historic Westside in a big way.

It’s been nearly 10 years since we have built a home on the Westside, and Novelis along with their partners—the NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons, the Arthur Blank Family Foundation, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Georgia Dome—shared in our celebration July 2017. Our new house dedication marked the first home whose construction was mainly funded from the value of recycled aluminum cans—many of which were collected during the 2016-17 Atlanta Falcons season during its Recycle for Good initiative with Novelis. As part of Recycle for Good, every three million aluminum cans and bottles collected funds an Atlanta Habitat home in Atlanta’s historic Westside community.

“Novelis and its partners are showing the power of what recycling can do for a community and we are proud to have them join us in helping to fulfill dreams of homeownership,” says Lisa Y. Gordon, Atlanta Habitat President and CEO.

More than $70 million worth of aluminum goes into landfills every year in Georgia; however, Novelis sees its true value to communities. “Because aluminum can be recycled forever, without losing its properties, it’s the perfect sustainable funding source for communities and nonprofits like Atlanta Habitat,” says Ashley Gravlee, manager of corporate social responsibility at Novelis.

The Westside home marks the fifth house that Novelis has built with an Atlanta Habitat homebuyer, and they are not done yet. In fall 2017, Novelis and its dedicated volunteers will join us for a blitz build—to construct a new home in less than eight weeks for another hardworking family this year.
