Lovett Math Students Help with Unique Build
Lovett Loving Atlanta Habitat
Normally, you must be at least 16 years old to participate in an Atlanta Habitat build, but our Youth Partnership program developed a new initiative for students who are a bit younger. Nearly 160 sixth-grade math students at The Lovett School helped Atlanta Habitat build home storage units and birdhouses that will be distributed to new Atlanta Habitat homebuyers.
The construction project was part of a hands-on math lesson for students who were studying fractions and decimals. The students completed about 80 birdhouses and two sheds. Lovett’s art students painted the houses.
This partnership is one of Atlanta Habitat’s new youth initiatives aimed at engaging students’ knowledge and volunteerism. The Lovett School has built 24 Atlanta Habitat homes to date, making the school one of Atlanta Habitat’s most valuable partners.
