Lead ReStore Volunteer

Objective:

These volunteers play an integral role in the ReStore by assuming leadership roles in relation to helping customers, completing priority projects and engaging small groups of volunteers.

Background:

The ReStore is Atlanta Habitat's discount outlet store that sells new and gently used home improvement materials, home accessories and other building supplies that have been donated by well-known, quality manufacturers and retail stores as well as builders and individuals.  The ReStore is open to the public, and its merchandise is discounted up to 75% off standard retail prices.  All net proceeds support Atlanta Habitat’s mission to build affordable homes for working families.

Outline of Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Assume a leading role in greeting and helping customers and educating them about Atlanta Habitat
  • Take ownership of priority projects identified by the ReStore Manager and/or other staff
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and provide them with the necessary instructions to help complete the priority projects for which you are responsible
  • Help keep less experienced volunteers productively engaged by mentoring them so they can complete other tasks on the daily to-do list created by staff
  • Report customer and volunteer concerns to the ReStore Manager

Schedule (Fall/Winter Hours):

Full (10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.) and half-day shifts (10:00 a.m. - 2:00 .pm. or 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.) are available Monday-Saturday.

Time Commitment: 

We ask Lead Volunteers to commit to an average of at least two shifts per month for a period of at least 6 months.

Training and Support: 

  • Interested volunteers must first work as a Lead-in-Training for 3 shifts (within an 8 week period) in order to become familiar with ReStore operations, and then be mentored by the ReStore Manager who will determine when the volunteer is ready to be a Lead Volunteer. 
  • Report directly to the ReStore Manager

Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Positive and friendly attitude and a love for interacting with people
  • Self-starter and ability to multi-task
  • Retail experience and/or a working knowledge of building materials and home accessories is helpful
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Getting Started:

We ask that all of our individual volunteers first come to an orientation. The volunteer orientation will provide you with an understanding of Atlanta Habitat's program, information on how to get started, and answer any questions you might have. Orientations are offered 2 – 3 times monthly on Wednesday or Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings and last approximately one hour.
