Each Atlanta Habitat homebuyer is required to complete 250 sweat equity hours within a year from date of move-in. 50 hours must be completed and submitted to the Homeowner Education Manager prior to being shown property. Of the 250 hours required, 150 must be completed by people that live in the Atlanta Habitat home. The remaining 100 hours may be completed by anyone working on behalf of the Atlanta Habitat homebuyer family.
How to Fulfill Sweat Equity
There are many ways to fulfill the sweat equity requirement:
- Work in the ReStore for a 4 hour shift. Please call the ReStore at 404-525-2114 in advance to sign up for a shift. Please identify yourself as a homebuyer when you call.
- Work in the Atlanta Habitat warehouse anytime on Wednesday or Thursday from 9-4 pm.
- Help build yours or other Atlanta Habitat homebuyers' houses. Email the Homeowner Education Manager, or call 404-223-5180, ext. 163, for available locations.
- Attend a meeting for your perspective Neighborhood Association, Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU) or PTA. Up to 10 sweat equity hours may be completed through meeting attendance. Download a Community Meeting Attendance form.
- Volunteer with Atlanta Habitat's Family Services Department as an Ambassador and attend outreach events. Email the Homeowner Outreach Coordinator or call 404-223-5180, ext. 133.
All sweat equity hours must be documented on a Sweat Equity sheet or a Community Meeting Report form and signed by an Atlanta Habitat representative. For credit, submit the original forms to the Homeowner Education Manager. No copies or faxes are accepted. Forms are available at class, in the Atlanta Habitat office lobby or download a PDF of the Sweat Equity sheet.
