How Do I Maintain My Atlanta Habitat Home?

Preventive and prompt maintenance is the key to increasing the enjoyment and value of your home. The easiest way to care for your home is to follow a regular maintenance schedule. This information is intended for homeowners of houses built by Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.

Spring & Summer Maintenance

  • Check for plumbing leaks and water flow from faucets.
  • Check crawl space for excessive dampness or leaks. Ensure that all outside water runs away from the house.
  • Replace furnace/air conditioner filters monthly. Have HVAC serviced every 2-3 years.
  • Examine for evidence of roof leaks from the inside.
  • Check window and door screens. Repair as necessary.
  • Scrub all outside wood areas. Reseal as necessary.
  • Power-wash the exterior of your home. Scrape peeling paint and re-touch paint as needed.

Fall & Winter Maintenance

  • Check caulking and weather stripping around windows and doors. Remove old caulk before recaulking.
  • Drain and store outside hoses.
  • Check insulation in attic and remove or add as necessary.
