Home Smart, Atlanta Habitat's Homeowner Education Program

The goal of Home Smart, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity’s education program, is to provide Atlanta Habitat homebuyers with the skills and information needed for successful homeownership. In fact, homeowners are encouraged to attend class as long as they live in an Atlanta Habitat home. Each Atlanta Habitat homebuyer is required to attend 12 Home Smart education classes that include a 10-class curriculum and 2 electives. All 12 class requirements must be fulfilled within a year from date of move-in. Home Smart classes are available only to Atlanta Habitat homebuyers and homeowners.

10-CLASS CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS
-Orientation (to be taken when accepted into program)
-Budgeting (to be taken within 60 days of move-in)

-HOME Room I (to be taken within 60 days of move-in)
-Introduction to Homeownership 
(to be taken within 60 days of move-in)
-Community Involvement

-Credit
-Crime Prevention
-Energy Use in Your Home
-Understanding Your Mortgage
-HOME Room II
 (to be taken as last class)


ELECTIVES
At least three different elective classes are offered each month. Homebuyers must choose two classes in the lease year to fulfill their class requirement. Classes offered may include Spring Gardening, Predatory Lending, Car Buying 101, Resume Writing or Ensuring Your Child’s Success in School just to name a few. See the schedule for the upcoming month or the entire year. 

LOCATION
All classes are held in the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity office in the Homeowner Education Room.
