What size are Atlanta Habitat homes? Homes are 3 bedroom/ 1 bath houses or 4 bedroom/ 2 bath houses. 3.) What is the interest rate on a home? Homeowners pay NO interest on their mortgages, saving them an average of $125,000 over the life of their mortgage. 4.) Is an Atlanta Habitat home energy-efficient? Yes! Atlanta Habitat homes are constructed using green building standards, producing energy efficient homes that protect the environment and reduce utility bills. 5.) How does Atlanta Habitat pay for construction costs? Atlanta Habitat relies on the support of sponsors, donors, and volunteers to help build homes, saving the homebuyer an average of $40,000 in labor and materials. 6.) Who are the house sponsors? Corporations, faith-based organizations, foundations, and individuals partner to sponsor homes financially and provide volunteers. 7.) How often does Atlanta Habitat build homes? Five to ten houses are under construction at any given time. We build 40 or more homes annually. 8.) How many homes has Atlanta Habitat built? Since 1983, Atlanta Habitat has built more than 1,200 homes primarily in the city of Atlanta and Fulton County, housing approximately 4,700 individual family members. 9.) Can anyone become an Atlanta Habitat homebuyer? Atlanta Habitat homes are for first-time homebuyers who meet specific qualifications to ensure success. 10.) What is expected of a homebuyer once approved? Homebuyers are expected to invest 250 sweat-equity hours in building his/her home and others, make an affordable down payment, lease the home for the first year, make timely payments during the lease period, and attend at least 12 homeowner education classes. 11.) How much is a mortgage payment? Monthly mortgage payments typically average less than $650 and include escrow for taxes, insurance, a termite bond, and a maintenance savings fund. 12.) Does Atlanta Habitat renovate existing homes? Because families pay for their homes and all future maintenance, we’re committed to constructing quality homes in which anyone would want to live. Occasionally, we renovate our own homes. If we acquire a property with a vacant house on it, we demolish that house and build to our own green standards. 13.) Is the ReStore only open for Atlanta Habitat homeowners? No. The ReStore is open to the public Tuesday – Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. |
