Would you like to learn how to navigate your way around LinkedIn? Join this class to understand how use to build your professional network—from creating an account, attaching your resume to marketing your experiences to future employers. You will receive double sweat-equity credit for attending.

Understanding Your Mortgage – Required class after move-in.   Do you understand what is included in your mortgage payment? What is involved in “closing” on your home? Atlanta Habitat’s legal department gives a detailed view of how your mortgage is structured and outlines the legal parameters of homeownership.

Drywall Repair - Elective class - Do you have minor drywall damage that needs repair? Sign-up and learn various methods for patching up holes in drywall, the differences in spackling products, and the types of tools needed for repair. This class will include hands-on work.

H.O.M.E. Room II - Required class after move-in. Learn even more about home maintenance, how to choose a vendor when you can’t do the work, and how to access the funds held in your maintenance account. This maintenance class is for homebuyers at the end of their educational sequence, or as a maintenance refresher. Class limited to 10 participants.

Ace the Future – Back to School Event – Habitat Households Only- Sign up by 8/5 at 5 p.m.

*You will receive one raffle ticket per household when you complete the activity card at the event*

 

Homeowners have helped plan an amazing event for youth from K-12! There will be plenty of activities including face painting, nail painting, haircuts, games, etc. There also will be a DJ, and a Price is Right game for the adults to win Home Depot products!

Also, ALL household members enrolled in grades K-12, and all adults in the household will receive TRIPLE SWEAT EQUITY hours for attending this event. This is an exception to the 9+ rule for electives and HOSM. Snacks will be provided.

Homeowner Support Meeting #3, Topic: Safety

Jamine Moton, CEO and Founder of The Skylar Firm | COO and Co-Founder of Hawque, a security services firm will speak about safety. She has 15+ years of law enforcement and private security experiences. She has served as a Law Enforcement Professional for a metro Atlanta Police Department.

What is a HOSM? An opportunity for homeowners to connect and engage with each other, the staff, and community partners. It is a great opportunity for new program participants, homeowners in their lease year, and closed homeowners/ambassadors to connect and share their stories.

Where: Atlanta Habitat headquarters, 824 Memorial Drive SE, Atlanta, GA 30316

When: Homeowner Support Meetings are once a quarter. The next meeting for 2018 is tentatively scheduled for November 29.

Also, ALL attendees 9 years of age and older will receive TRIPLE SWEAT-EQUITY hours for attending this meeting. Dinner will be provided from 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. We will raffle prizes including a Home Depot item valued at $50 for all homeowners who did not attend a meeting in 2017 or in January/May 2018.

Español Anyone?  Let's Talk Spanish! Elective class - Open to adults and youth – Like Mexican food? Try reading and ordering in Spanish next time you eat at a Mexican Restaurant. This fun, elective class will expose you to words and pronunciations in short useful phrases when interacting in a restaurant environment. Gain insight into a world class language. Spanish is spoken worldwide and the second most spoken in the U.S. Let’s get started! Vamonos! Class taught by Atlanta Habitat Staff. You will receive double, sweat-equity hours for attending.

The Atlanta Humane Society presents “Animals and You”Elective Youth Class - “Through interactive conversations and hands-on activities, we will share how the human, animal, and environmental worlds collide while inspiring respect, responsibility and a reverence for all life. Students will learn about domestic and wild animals in our community, including which ones need our help and why. We’ll also discuss the Atlanta Humane Society's role in our community when it comes to safety, pet ownership, and the law, and explore careers within the animal welfare industry. Our session will then conclude with a hands-on project that will be used to help enrich the lives of our current dog residents!” There will be a raffle and youth will receive double, sweat-equity hours for attending.

Better U - Elective class - Open to adults & youth

*You will receive double-sweat equity for attending three out of four classes. *  - Better U is a four-week program; you are expected to attend all four classes. This program helps participants come up with effortless ways to make small changes that will lead to a Better U! Each class has the nutrition education lesson and recipe demo and includes about 20 minutes of light physical activity to help get people up and moving in a fun, safe way.

Computer Basic - Elective class – Are you a homeowner who has COMPLETED PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS, remains current on your mortgage and has not received a laptop or computer from Atlanta Habitat in the past five years? You are eligible to register for this class and earn a free laptop! Class filled in the order of applications received. Introduction to Homeownership - Required class after move-in. Recommended within 60 days of move in. What are the differences between leasing and owning a home? This class captures the processes, requirements and benefits during the first year in your new home. The instructor will also review valuable information related to your home and steps to lead you to closing on your mortgage.
