Lawn Care -  Elective class -  A beautiful lawn starts with preparation and planning. Come learn general lawn maintenance techniques like when to plant or cut grass, prune, and the application of fertilizer to help keep your grass growing and looking its best! If you have moved into your home already, your survey will be pulled so the instructor has detailed information to assist you. You will receive double sweat equity for attending.

Fence Permitting -  Elective class -  Are you thinking about building a fence? Did you know you must have a permit to build a fence in the City of Atlanta? Come find out about how to obtain the permits you need to build a fence. You will receive double sweat equity for attending.

Computer Basic -  Elective class – Are you a homeowner who has COMPLETED PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS, who is current on your mortgage and has not received a laptop/computer from Atlanta Habitat in the past five years? You are eligible to register for this class and receive a free laptop! Class filled in order of applications received. Pick up an application at Habitat or email Jessie for a copy via email.

Navigating Google -  Elective class -  Open to adults & high school students – Would you like to learn how to navigate your way around Google? If so, come join this class to understand how to get the most out of it, whether if it’s by creating a Google Account, setting up a Gmail, or learning how to effectively use Google Maps, Google Docs, and/or Google Drive. You will receive double sweat equity for attending.

Introduction to Homeownership -  Required class after move-in. Recommended within 60 days of move in. What are the differences between leasing and owning a home? This class will discuss many of the situations you may encounter in the first year in your new home. The instructor will also review need to know information related to your Habitat home and requirements before you close.

Vision. Goals. Action! (VGA) Scholarship IIEvent – Open to adults & youth – Come watch our Summer 2018 award recipients be honored. The scholarship awards, an integral part of Atlanta Habitat’s Vision. Goals. Action Initiative, is an opportunity to hear about the honorees journey and how the scholarship will help propel Atlanta Habitat homeowners’ educational success.

Computer Lab: Intro to Web Design - Elective class - Open to adults & high school students –  Seating is limited. Would you like to learn how to create your own website? If so, sign up for this class where you will view a completed Go Daddy website and learn how to use Go Daddy’s software and templates. Etsy templates will also be briefly discussed.

Would you like to create your own signage or just brush up on your hand-lettering skills? Understanding Your Mortgage – Required class after move-in.   Do you understand what is included in your mortgage payment? What is involved in “closing” on your home? Atlanta Habitat’s legal department gives a detailed overview of how your mortgage is structured and outlines the legal parameters of homeownership.

Drywall Repair -  Elective class -  Do you have minor drywall damage that needs repair? Sign-up and learn various methods for patching up holes in drywall, the differences in spackling products, and the types of tools needed for repair. This class will include hands-on work.

Learn even more about home maintenance, how to choose a vendor when you can’t do the work, and how to access the funds held in your maintenance account. This maintenance class is designed for homebuyers at the end of their educational sequence, or as a maintenance refresher. Class limited to 10 participants.

Homeowner Support Meeting #3 – An opportunity for homeowners to connect and engage with each other, the staff, and community partners. It is a great opportunity for new program participants, homeowners in their lease year, and closed homeowners/ ambassadors to get to know each other and share their stories.

Where? Atlanta Habitat Headquarters, 824 Memorial Drive SE. Atlanta, GA 30316

When? Homeowner Support Meetings occur once a quarter. The other meeting for 2018 is tentatively scheduled for 11/29.

 Also, ALL attendees 9 years of age and older will receive TRIPLE SWEAT EQUITY for attending this meeting. Dinner will be provided from 6:30 – 7:00 pm and there will be raffles. One of the raffles at the meeting will be for all homeowners who did not attend a meeting in 2017 or January/May 2018. The winner can choose a $50 Home Depot item.

Español Anyone?!?  Let's Talk Spanish! Elective class - Open to adults & youth – Like Mexican food? Try reading and ordering in Spanish next time you eat at a Mexican Restaurant. This fun elective class will expose you to words and pronunciations in short useful phrases when interacting in a restaurant environment. Get an insight to a world class language. The Atlanta Humane Society presents “Animals and You” – Elective Youth Class - “Through interactive conversations and hands-on activities, we will share how the human, animal and environmental worlds collide while inspiring respect, responsibility and a reverence for all life. Students will learn about the domestic and wild animals in our community, including which ones need our help and why. We’ll also discuss the Atlanta Humane Society's role in our community when it comes to safety, pet ownership and the law, and explore careers within the animal welfare industry. Our session will then conclude with a hands-on project that will be used to help enrich the lives of our current dog residents!”
