Join us as we welcome some fabulous speakers to Atlanta Habitat who will share their knowledge about leadership and entrepreneurship and answer your questions. This is a one-of-a-kind professional development opportunity! Refreshments provided 5:30–6 p.m. Non-Habitat guests may sign up to attend; only household members will receive sweat equity.

ALL attendees nine years of age and older will receive TRIPLE SWEAT EQUITY hours for attending this event. Dinner will be provided from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

Too Blessed to Be Stressed: Yoga for Busy Moms Elective class

Yoga for Busy Moms is a one-hour beginners’ yoga workshop with a focus on learning seven traditional yoga postures to increase flexibility, stamina and strength. Breathing and relaxation techniques help ease stress and can be done anywhere, anytime. Bring a yoga mat and dress to stretch.

V.G.A. Launch! Business Competition Elective, sweat equity. Registration required; limited space available.

Watch the finalists (all Atlanta Habitat household members) in an entrepreneurial competition where they pitch their business ideas to judges. First place will win $2,500 toward their business! Non-Habitat guests may sign up to attend; only household members will receive sweat equity.

Learn even more about home maintenance, how to choose a vendor when you can’t do the work and how to access the funds held in your maintenance account. This maintenance class is for homebuyers at the end of their educational sequence, or as a maintenance refresher. Class limited to 10 participants.

Cooking Class – Elective class, open to youth; limited to 18 participants

Designed for youth, this fun, hands-on cooking class will have you preparing a delicious meal while learning basic cooking skills. The class is focused on meal preparation (healthy, nutritious and financially responsible) and will encourage eating at home with family. Taught by a high school home economics teacher.

Computer Basics Elective class

Are you a homeowner who has COMPLETED PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS, remains current on your mortgage and has not received a laptop or computer from Atlanta Habitat in the past five years? You are eligible to register for this class and earn a free laptop! Class is filled in the order of applications received. Pick up an application at Atlanta Habitat or email Jessie Tran for a copy via email.

6:30–8 p.m.

Homeowner Support Meeting (HOSM) #4, Topic: Holiday Prep

A representative from the Better Business Bureau will speak about common holiday scams. Important tips for holiday shopping will also be shared as well as some of the best deals of 2018!

 

What is a HOSM? It is an opportunity for homeowners to connect and engage with each other, with staff and with community partners. It is a great opportunity for new program participants, homeowners in their lease year and closed homeowners/ambassadors to connect and share their stories.

Homeowner Support Meetings take place once a quarter.

All attendees nine years of age and older will receive TRIPLE SWEAT EQUITY hours for attending this meeting. Dinner will be provided from 6:30 to 7 p.m. We will raffle prizes, including a Home Depot item valued at $50.

Resume Class/Interviewing Skills Elective class open, to adults and high schoolers Elevate Your Job Search – Create your best resume, cover letter, reference list and job application. Learn how to upgrade your resume and cover letter to ensure your online job applications are competitive. Get tips on selecting a strong list of references. The instructor will discuss how employers use online systems to screen candidates. Participants who submit their resume in advance of the class will get an individual review with recommendations. The instructor is an experienced HR professional responsible for hiring at many different levels.
